Getting to know Papuan KKB
As explained above, the KKB is a terrorist group that has been designated by the Indonesian government. KKB itself carried out attacks on civilians, the TNI and Polri, as well as health workers.
Launching the dpr.go.id page, it was previously known that the Papuan KKB was called the Free Papua Organization (OPM). This OPM always voices about a referendum, so that Papua can be independent and independent.
With the worsening conditions and widespread conflict due to the action of the KKB, which is a pro-independence group for Papua, this prompted the government to take firmer action by establishing the KKB as a theorist group.
This was announced by the government through an official statement from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD during a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday 29 April 2021.
“KKB organizations and members are categorized as terrorist groups because they have committed massive violence.” Said Mahfud MD.
History of the Papuan KKB
The formation of the Papuan KKB did not just happen, the existence of a complex conflict was one of the causes of its formation. Before being born as KKB, this group was formerly known as the Free Papua Organization (OPM).
The OPM was founded in 1965 to end the administration of the provinces of Papua and West Papua, previously called Irian Jaya. They intend to break away from Indonesia. The OPM also often voices about a referendum so that it can be independent from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
In fighting for the group’s wishes, they several times carried out criminal movements that claimed lives. Therefore, the government then took the initiative to establish Special Autonomy for Papua with a large budget. Unfortunately, the budget is only used by the elite, not to the wider community. This then triggered a massive resistance movement from the OPM by committing various crimes.
With these crimes, the OPM is often labeled as a criminal organization. Therefore, the term OPM was then changed to KKB or armed criminal group. Even now, the KKB is still spreading terror armed with complete and up-to-date weapons.
Quoted from the official website kemhan.go.id, KKB is a pro-independence group for the land of Papua. This is also in accordance with the history of the formation of the KKB. Therefore, the main goal of the KKB is to free Papua from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, so this group is considered a separatist movement, which can threaten the integrity of the country.
