PLEACE.id – The DPR has finally processed President Joko Widodo’s letter regarding the revision of the Electronic Information and Transaction Law (UU ITE) .
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani read out the presidential decree containing the request for revisions in a plenary meeting held at the DPR, Thursday (17/11). In fact, the DPR received the presidential decree on December 16, 2021.

“We need to inform you that the leadership of the DPR has received Letter from the President Number R58 dated December 16 concerning the Second Amendment Bill to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning ITE,” said Puan.

With the reading of the presidential decree at the plenary session, then the board’s tools will be determined to discuss the revision of the ITE Law.

Deputy Chairman of the DPR Legislative Body (Baleg) Willy Aditya, in July 2022, said that the revision of the ITE Law would be discussed across commissions. This is because, even though this legal product is part of Commission I, the accompanying cases are related to other commissions.

“Of course we will bring this to the rapim (leadership meeting) or to the bamus (deliberation body) where (the discussion) will be discussed later, not only involving Commission I,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD had revealed that the government had agreed to carry out limited revisions to four articles in the ITE Law.

The four articles are Articles 27, 28, 29 and 36. Apart from the revision of the four articles, there is also the addition of a new article in the revision of the ITE Law, namely Article 45C.

The Indonesian Parliament Caring Community Forum (Formappi) said that the performance of the DPR RI under Puan Maharani was getting worse. This is because the legislative achievements of the DPR are currently relatively low.

Formappi researcher Lucius Karus said that in the past three years, only 18 Bills on the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) have been passed by the DPR.

Meanwhile, 25 other bills are open cumulative bills such as ratification of international treaties, follow-up to decisions of the Constitutional Court, State Budget and Perppu.
